Fall 2013 Makeup Trends

This year, the hot makeup trends are both subtle and bold. Check out these three trendy looks.

Bold Lips
Be daring with a bold lip color like candy apple red or hot pink. Jane Iredale has 6 new shades of red and 5 pinks so you’ll be sure to find the one perfect for you. It might be a little intimating to breakout a blast of color, but I swear that once you start sporting a bold color you will be the envy of all. I literally just had a client in my office who I put a bold red on. She freaked out saying to was too dark and looked freaky. I asked her to wear it for me until she left the studio. My next client walked in a few minutes later, looked at her as she was putting her shoes on and said, “OMG! I wish I could pull off that color. You look amazing.” I smiled and the both ended up buying a bold color that they now love getting compliments on.

Metallic eyes
Shining blues and shimmering pinks will grace the lids of many women this year. I’ve seen the Jane Iredale Pearl Powder on just about every model gracing a cover this month! While this look is typically reserved for a night out on the town, more and more women are sporting the fun look everyday. Of course, metallic eyes must carefully be paired with bold lips or a more mellow color for daytime, but at night be bold by pairing them both together.

Barely-there makeup
If you wouldn’t dream of wearing bold lips or metallic eye colors, there is a more subtle trend in makeup too. Trendsetters say the barely-there look is in. The foundation of this look is, you guessed it, your foundation. This is simple with the right Jane Iredale base. Come in for a color match if you aren’t already using the best barely there, perfect coverage, skin care makeup on earth. Add a warm eye shadow color and glossy lips and you’re set. A trick I like to use for barely there makeup is add the blush color to the eye lip in the crease. It will pull the look together seamlessly.

Remember, makeup is something to have fun with. So many of us get in our heads about what we can and can’t wear, but for every so called makeup “rule” out there, there’s another one that tells us to break it. So try something different. It’s not a tattoo, you can take it off. Play! Have fun! And see how changing up your style turns heads and gets you noticed.

Enchanting Emerald Eyes

288ca4de-d55a-4d61-92ca-6c247e90c6f0Last year, tangerine was the hottest color and was spotted all over the runway and red carpet, and this year emerald is taking over. Rich, vivid and full of life, emerald sets the stage for spring perfectly and can be worn all year long. Emerald looks best on Winter’s with their darker hair, medium to fair complexion, and dark eyes, but anyone can add emerald to their style for a touch of elegant sophistication. Try subtly adding it as an accent. Look for emerald in nail polishes and jewelry. You can even try adding it to your eye shadow. Just follow these steps to get the emerald smoky eye look:

  1. Use a light, neutral eye shadow, like bone, over the entire lid.
  2. Use a light shimmery shade of green on the lid and blend up toward the crease.
  3. Blend a deep shade of emerald from the outside corner into the crease about two-thirds of the way in to build intensity.
  4. Use the neutral eye shadow again to highlight and blend at the inner corners and brow bones.
  5. Apply black eye liner to the upper lash line and smudge along the lower lash line.
  6. Apply black eye liner to the inner rims of your eyes, along the waterlines.
  7. Finish the look with a couple coats of black mascara.

Emerald makes for such a gorgeous eye shadow and works with all eye colors. With this bold eye look, it’s best to keep the rest of your makeup neutral and wear a nude or peach lip gloss. A cobalt blue or purple blouse will also compliment your emerald eyes beautifully, making them pop even more.

Fall 2012 Color Trends

2b44bf5d-89a0-4300-aed0-2c6a1ffec278I’ve been combing the runway pics and fashion blogs for the fall trends and here they are in a nutshell.

Eyes: are divided this season with purple, browns and charcoals for smokey eyes and bright lips (yes you heard it bold eye AND bold lip!), or vivid jewel colors (especially purple and green) swiped all over the eyelid with long, long, LONG lashes and a nude pink lip. Both of these are matched with silvers and platinum. Gold is out and silver’s in this season.

Cheeks: are bright with orange and reds. When I see pinks they are bold and pop off the face.

Liners: are still trending thick and winged, but in an array of colors. Purple, blue, green, orange and often blends in with the eye shadow color.

Lips: As mentioned in the eye section nudes can be found, but more often red, mulberry, and brown violets are trending.

Brows: These are dark and full with real weight to them.
